Colorado Springs, Colo. (Feb. 18, 2020) — USA Ultimate, the national governing body for the sport of ultimate in the United States, announced today dates and locations for the major events of the 2020 Triple Crown Tour.
The Tour’s regular season kicks off June 6, which marks the first opportunity for club division teams to earn points towards their 2020 ranking. On the weekend of July 11-12, the season’s first two major events will take place simultaneously. The Pro-Elite Challenge will occur in Aurora, Colo., and will be held at the Aurora Sports Park and hosted by Colorado Ultimate. The Select Flight Invite (West) will take place in Norco, Calif., and will be held at the SilverLakes Sports Park and hosted by California Ultimate.
Two weeks later, Oshadega, in conjunction with Ohio Ultimate, will host the year’s second Select Flight Invite (East) in Columbus, Ohio, July 25-26 at Spindler Road Park. 2020 marks the second year USA Ultimate will hold two Select Flight Invites, part of continued efforts to offer additional competition opportunities for Select Flight teams around the country.
The National Sports Center in Blaine, Minn., will once again host the U.S. Open Club Championships from July 31 – August 3. The International Club Championships division will be contested July 31 – August 2, and features the semifinalists from the 2019 National Championships, invitation-only international squads and other top North American teams. The Youth Club Championships division will get underway a day later, with teams competing August 1-3.
About 35 miles northeast of Cincinnati in Lebanon, Ohio, CUPA and Ohio Ultimate will host the 2020 Elite-Select Challenge, August 22-23 at the Warren County Sports Park. The tournament includes the lower half of last year’s national championship qualifiers and teams that just missed out on a trip to San Diego last fall.
The Triple Crown Tour regular season concludes with the Pro Championships, September 5-7, in Boulder, Colo., where the top half of last season’s national championship qualifiers will compete. The event will be held at the Pleasantview Soccer Complex and will be hosted by Colorado Ultimate.
Following the conclusion of the regular season on August 30, except for those teams competing at the Pro Championships, the Triple Crown Tour Postseason opens with sectional qualifiers (September 12-13) before eight regional championships (September 26-27) determine which 48 teams will punch their tickets to the 2020 USA Ultimate National Championships which return to San Diego, Calif., October 22-25
Each major Triple Crown Tour event will feature three competitive divisions – men’s, mixed and women’s. Teams can win the Triple Crown by winning the U.S. Open, Pro Championships and National Championships.
The 2020 TCT guidelines are currently being finalized and will be published as soon as they are available.
