Colorado Springs, Colo. (October 4, 2018)—USA Ultimate announced today a 39-game broadcast and livestreaming schedule for the 2018 National Championships. The four-day event runs October 18-21 in San Diego and marks the 50th anniversary of the invention of ultimate.
Forty-eight club teams will compete across three divisions – men’s, mixed and women’s – as they set their sights on a national title. 2017 champions San Francisco Revolver (men), Seattle Mixtape (mixed) and San Francisco Fury (women) are all back in the field to defend their titles this year.
The tournament begins with pool play on Thursday, October 18, followed by early-round, single-elimination bracket play on Friday, October 19. Semifinals will take place on Saturday, October 20, and the three championship games are Sunday, October 21.
ESPN returns to the National Championships for the sixth straight year to provide live coverage of seven games. The Worldwide Leader in Sports kicks off its programming on Semifinal Saturday with a quadrupleheader of games from all three divisions. Coverage begins with a mixed division match up at 2:45 p.m. ET, followed by a men’s division game at 5:15 p.m. and both women’s semifinals at 8:30 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.
ESPN concludes its coverage on Championship Sunday with the three title games. The mixed division championship begins at 1:00 p.m. ET, followed by the women’s championship at 3:30 p.m. and men’s championship at 6:00 pm.
All of ESPN’s programming will stream live via ESPN3 and the WatchESPN mobile app and will be simulcast in Canada on TSNGO.
In addition to ESPN’s programming, USA Ultimate has again hired Fulcrum Media Group to produce an additional 18 games to be streamed live on USA Ultimate’s social media channels – Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. Coverage includes two games per round and features eight pool play games, two pre-quarterfinals, four quarterfinals and two semifinals.
Ultiworld also returns to the National Championships and will distribute an additional 14 games.
Ultiworld’s coverage will include a combination of live and tape-delayed programming. Each round of pool play will feature one free live-streamed game, available at www.ultiworld.com/live, plus a second game that will be a part of Ultiworld’s on-demand subscription package. Coverage will also include two pre-quarter match ups and four quarterfinal games.
